Your child can practise colours by making a beautiful field of rainbow flowers! There are versions in colour that you can use as play-dough mats, or sheets in blackline that children can colour.
You can use this FREE printable together with our pocket-sized colours flashcards. It’s also perfect to use with our song video The Colours of the Rainbow, to help practise the order of the rainbow colours!
I teach the colours red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and pink as the rainbow colours although I am aware that, officially, the rainbow has indigo and violet instead of purple and pink. However, as an ESL preschool teacher I prefer to keep it simple and teach the basic colours.

How to use the Flower Field printable:
There are two versions, depending on what you want to practice with your child:
- Version 1: the flowers have labels with words to trace and read. Children trace the words on the leaves and colour the flowers according to the word using crayons, or play dough.
- Version 2: has blank labels, so children colour each flower and write the colour word in the space on the leaves. You can use our colours flashcards for your child to copy the words.
Both these worksheets are available in colour and black and white. You can laminate the colour version and use it over and over again with dry erase or washable markers, or even as a play-dough mat!
